How to Make It?

Follow these simple steps to build your model.

1

Car Body

Cut a rectangular piece of cardboard or plastic bottle. This will be the chassis of your car.

2

Axles & Wheels

Use straws as axle holders and skewers as axles. Attach bottle caps as wheels. Ensure they spin freely.

3

Mount Magnet

Tape a bar magnet to the back of the car. Make sure the North pole is facing outwards.

4

The Wand

Stick another magnet to a ruler (Wand). Ensure the North pole faces the car to create repulsion.

The Logic

Magnetic Physics

Magnetic Poles

Every magnet has a North and South pole. Like poles (N-N or S-S) repel each other.

Repulsion Force

The invisible magnetic field creates a pushing force strong enough to overcome the friction of the wheels.

Newton's 2nd Law

Force = Mass x Acceleration. A lighter car will move faster with the same magnetic force.
