Light travels in straight lines and reflects at 45°.

How to Make It?

Follow these simple steps to build your model.

Tube Body

Use a long cardboard box or PVC pipe. Cut it into a 'Z' shape or use two elbow joints for PVC.

Mirror Angle

Place two plane mirrors at exactly 45 degrees at the top and bottom corners facing each other.

Securing

Tape the mirrors securely. Ensure no light enters from the sides except the viewing windows.

Camouflage

Paint it black or green for a stealth look. Your periscope is ready for spying!

The Logic

Physics of Reflection

Law of Reflection

Angle of Incidence = Angle of Reflection. 45° mirrors turn light by 90°.

Parallel Rays

Since both mirrors are parallel to each other, the reflected image is upright, not inverted.

Rectilinear Propagation

Light travels in straight lines until it hits the mirror surfaces.

45° + 45° = 90° Shift
