DESIGN METHODOLOGY

Stages of Sewage Treatment Plant planning.

1

Pre-treatment

Screening (removing large debris) and Grit Chamber design to settle heavy inorganic solids.

2

Primary Treatment

Designing the Sedimentation Tank to settle organic suspended solids via gravity (typically 60% BOD reduction).

3

Secondary Treatment

Aeration Tank design (Activated Sludge Process). Using bacteria to consume dissolved organic matter (High BOD reduction).

4

Tertiary & Sludge

Filtration (Sand filters) and Disinfection (Chlorination). Sludge digestion and dewatering process.

Design Calculation Logic

// Activated Sludge Process (ASP) Design Parameters Design_Flow (Q) = 10 MLD (Million Liters per Day); Influent_BOD = 300 mg/L; Effluent_BOD = 30 mg/L; // Target (90% removal) // Aeration Tank Volume (V) Calculation V = (Q * Yi * θc * S0) / (1 + Kd * θc) / X; // Key Parameters (STP Constants) Yield_Coeff (Yi) = 0.5 kg VSS/kg BOD; Decay_Rate (Kd) = 0.05 per day; SRT (θc) = 10 days; // Solids Retention Time MLVSS (X) = 2500 mg/L; // Mixed Liquor Volatile Suspended Solids // Final Effluent Quality Check Required_COD = 250 mg/L; Required_TSS = 30 mg/L;
